Beasts and Beauties: More MG Fantasy Covers

Cats make good companions on this round of middle-grade covers. Dragons, not so much. (With the exception, as always, of the little Dragonbreath guy.)

Yesterday we talked about style—today, we pay attention to content. Lonely heroes, ships on air and sea, and a few truly amazing gizmos. What fun for illustrators!

Click “read more” (bottom of the post) to see all the covers. They're from books published July-December 2013. If we missed a good one, please link to it in the comments.

And, again, tell us your favorite!

Whatever’s going on here, I’m in it alone.

Except for the cat, of course.

Make that cats. And a weird light.

Ah, for a vessel to sail in!

Or fantastical gizmos that whir.

Cruel beasts (shouldn’t he tuck that tail in?)

And dragons are just de rigueur.

Some critters are friendly, or downright adorable.

Snow can be lovely, though the chill is deplorable.

But for pure escapism, nothing beats a princess.
